With the winter weather coming, most golfers are ready to pack away their clubs for the season. But Greg Woolvett is trying to change that. Woolvett, of Pro Putt Synthetic Turf, installs synthetic greens in back yards, offices, cottages and condominiums. Unlike the old days of green carpet, the Pro-Putt system is as close to the real thing as possible.
"It provides true ball performance," says Woolvett. "We think its very close to a real green."
And others would tend to agree. Richard Zokol has one in his back yard and David Morland IV is about to have one put in. Jesper Parnevik also has a system at his Florida home.
In addition to PGA Tour players, average golfers from across the country are turning to Pro Putt to have a green at home. About 100 have been created in Canada alone. There have been requests from as far away as Iqaluit, Nunavut.
The price is also manageable, with an average installation, which can take a single day, running between $3,500 and $5,000.
"When you consider that a hot tub can run you $6,000, this is a pretty good deal," says Woolvett.
And the best part is that turf doesn't go brown in the winter and you don't have to cut it.
